I’m staring at the future
in that mirror darkly
and I see
a giant vertical test tube
large enough for one person
but not two.
Compatible ova
and surrogate mothers
chronowombs
that speed up the process
deliberate engineering
from zygote
to germinal stage
achieving a perfection
that only a spell
or a small miracle
could ever break.

I like this one too, I like the image of the test tube only big enough for one person. I really like this whole nucleic acid thing you’ve got going here…I like the way you bring the microscopic together with the everyday. They are one and the same, really, we just don’t pay attention to that most of the time, but your poems remind me. Also, I don’t know why, but this particular poem makes me think of the movie Avatar. I hope that does not offend you, to compare you to a pop movie. But, I really dug what I took away as the main message of that movie, (and what I am getting from your poems) which is: the evolution of consciousness. Keep evolving over there, Matt D. Let me know how it’s goin’ now and then. Lisa V.
Wow, Lisa, again, I really appreciate your comments. I don’t mind being compared to a pop movie at all. I actually loved Avatar (kind of an sf Dances with Wolves). I’m mostly just trying to play with ideas, feelings, and words and bring them into some kind of whole. I’m really glad you liked the poem.
