kiss me stupid, a poem

kiss me stupid, a poem | expressions

She looked as if
she’d cry
if I were to press
just the right buttons.

A pumpkin head with sharp teeth,
that bumps around at night
gobbling up small children
because they refuse
to brush their teeth,
to go to bed on time,
and to be seen
without being heard.

She looked as if
she was trying to be sexy,
but all I saw
was fear.

A ship frozen in ice;
it waits
for the seasons to change.

She looked as if
she was waiting for me
to kiss her on the lips,
stupidly.

  1. Hmmmm. Stupidly you were kissing, or stupidly she was waiting? There’s always two versions to the story.

These are so interesting. “She looked….BUT.” Those buts do get in the way of things.

  2. I like this, the tone and rhythm. I especially like that last stanza.

Thank you for posting it. Peace,

    Diane

  3. Wonderful…. her old fears play on her… Nice poem, Matt!
