if I had her, a poem

Eyes
that swallow you whole
a cigarette burning
between index and forefinger
slender silk
smoke signals.

A checkerboard heart
each move planned
in circumspect
she swallows you
whole.

if I had her

fall, a poem

Modern structures
angular and straight
resist gravity
in a perfection
unnatural.

My heart on hold
waiting
clean as a pang.

fall

hand to mouth, a poem

She held her baby close
to protect him from the cold
with so much tenderness
she was sure her heart would burst;
and as she tried to figure out
where she would get his next meal
she all at once realized
she would never understand
how so love
could bring so much pain.

hand to mouth

three beats, a poem

Nothing more from you
than a wordless glance
in my direction
and my heart
skips
three beats
then flutters.

three beats

reverberations

Images
hidden in verse
that strum my heart
and play a tune there
giving birth to
reverberations
that color my world.
