if I had her

Eyes
that swallow you whole
a cigarette burning
between index and forefinger
slender silk
smoke signals.

A checkerboard heart
each move planned
in circumspect
she swallows you
whole.

    fall

    Modern structures
    angular and straight
    resist gravity
    in a perfection
    unnatural.

    My heart on hold
    waiting
    clean as a pang.

      hand to mouth

      She held her baby close
to protect him from the cold
      with so much tenderness
      she was sure her heart would burst;
and as she tried to figure out
where she would get his next meal
      she all at once realized
      she would never understand
      how so love
      could bring so much pain.

        three beats

        Nothing more from you
        than a wordless glance
        in my direction
        and my heart
        skips
        three beats
        then flutters.

          reverberations

          Images
          hidden in verse
          that strum my heart
          and play a tune there
          giving birth to
          reverberations
          that color my world.
