seed

Scattered to the wind;
hundreds of years from now
only few remain
to tell the tale.

A lonely figure stands tall
against the dark night
as the moon shines down
through its network of branches
and reflects a timeless pattern
set against cold black water.

    the calm of thought

He woke under the full moon
to find a veiled maiden sat near
    singing in low solemn tones;
    her voice,
the voice of his own soul
heard in the calm of thought
    a melody of woven sounds;
    streams and breezes
    crackling leaves
    birds and crickets;
    his inmost sense
    suspended in its own web
    a multi-colored iridescent net
    of shifting hues
    from which freedom
    would be a loss.

    the calm of thought
[Creatively adapted from Percy Bysshe Shelley's Alastor]

      lurid blue

      Your skin
      as pale as the moon
      your lips
      a shade of lurid blue.

        bouquet

        In her wedding gown
she sat on the tall cliff
        under the full moon
        and looked far off
        into the sea
        holding her bouquet
        and believing
        he had not
        abandoned her.

          translucent forms

          Translucent forms
          that hold me spellbound
          nothing there but emptiness
yet in that form I see so much
          imagination set free to play
          meaning not yet focused.

          The thoughts I had
          once long ago
          on a Thursday night
when the moon was so full
it shimmied in through the window
          and filled the vacant void
          for at least a while
          then said good night
          and faded into shadow.

            small little faces

            Small little faces
            peer out at me
            from flowers that bloom
            only under
            the full moon.

              sitting in a plane

              Sitting in a plane
and looking out at the wing
              as it stretches forward
              toward a pale moon
              never making any progress
              as the sky changes
              from hues of deep orange
              to those of indigo.

                under the moonlight

                Across a point
                reflected unevenly
                so that everything is bent
                and ripples slightly
                under the moonlight.
