entwine

She said,
draw me
into your life
entwine me
in your love.

And I thought,
lust
fathers
the world.

Years later
when I would think of her
I would remember
that I lusted
after the mere form
of her shadow.

    midnight blue billows

    Midnight blue billows rock the deep waters
    while moonlight tinged caps of silver foam
    smack the lonely shadow of a broken ship
    that limps its way toward distant shores.

      shadow visit

      Faintly glowing
      this shadow from my dreams
      now in my room
      dancing across my walls
      and out the window
      waltzing
      across the yard
      and down the drive way
      into the street
      pausing for a moment
      under a street lamp
      to take a bow
      then disappearing
      into the shade.

        enveloped in shadows

        Enveloped in shadows
        seeping into the earth
        strong pungent smells
        yesterday devouring me
        even as tomorrow
        springs out;
        my heart floats
        high above
        casting diffuse rays
        of dim blue.

          lunar

          The beast long dormant
          in that dark alcove
          of your heart
          is roused
          and I find myself
          turning into jelly –

          Spilling out onto the floor,
          a mess in the dim light;
          your smell lingering on
          as I grovel in the dirt
          and sniff
          and follow.

          Ferocity, a steel web
          that rakes me into the dirt
          the me I thought I knew
          not me at all.

          Shadows bend
          towards the approaching night
          a complex dance
          between the fading light of day
          and the encroaching dark of night;
          the moon rises
          and casts new shadows
          over flowers lost
          in shades of gray.

          Finally, I find you
          confined
          restrained
          rusted, heavy chains
          weigh you down
          in a single square
          of thought.

          Kneel down
          forgive me my sins
          for by the time
          the new day dawns
          once again –

          I will have set you free.

            poem: the magician’s shadow

            the magician’s shadow

            Study the remains
            of native religious literature
            and find forgotten potentials;
            take the fragments
            and bring them together
            you’ll find
            a shadow on the wall.

            Wine will spill
            and trickle off the table
            as the wind blows
            and vines shiver;
            the roses will be aglow
            and cast a glimmer
            on your blade ready to strike
            the unseen enemy,
            the shadow on the wall

            Credit taken,
            never given;
            maxed out,
            a dull club
            that pounds you daily;
            all this you sweep aside,
            a new image forming,
            it’s that shadow on the wall

            A flicker on the screen
            says the truth it out there;
            a fax streams through
            the message in an old script,
            not occult, just forgotten
            you’re beginning to get it;
            the shadow on the wall

            Hermes by your window
            tapping gently;
            Thoth clearing his throat
            to get your attention
            you’re knee deep in it now
            and there’s no going back;
            the spirits of old
            have come out to play
            and they dance around you
            that’s your shadow on the wall.

            Spells, enchantments, formulas,
            words of power,
            they’ll bind you, if you let them,
            so put them all aside
            find your way,
            an eternal way;
            from an intuition
            let there be a revelation;
            a path revealed;
            the transmitter and transmitted
            becoming one.

            The shadow on the wall
            now bright and orange
            is the inner dimensions
            of your truth;
            only your truth
            is the truth
            now writ large
            your shadow on the wall.
