Poem of tears

Tears don’t just clean the eyes, the cleanse the soul. Tears don’t just lubricate your eye lids as you blink, they water the depths of your inner spirit. We see a tear, and the recognition is instant. What better subject is there for a poem, than a tear falling down over a soft flush cheek? So we decided we’d have our own go at it. Here are several poems about tears. Our lyrics have let go of rhyme, and instead emphasize metaphor. Each verse is an original, and you will find it only on Shadow of Iris.

The Tears Poem

by Emma Blue

A baby crying—
What troubles you?
What draws your tears?
In twenty years, more or less,
you’ll have an explanation—
It’ll all be understood.
Those tears will be gone,
and you’ll wonder
what they were for—
and you’ll miss those tears.
You’ll want them back.

Misty Tears Poem

by Paul Bearer

She is a ghost
watching me from the distance
and when she thinks I’m not looking
she sneaks nearer for a closer look.

Once I could feel her there
right behind me
so that when I turned
I caught her, face to face,
frozen in surprise.

Here eyes were so deep—
fathomless, delicate, shy—
I leaned in for a kiss,
just a small kiss,
but before my lips found their mark
she’d faded into mist,
wet dew against my tears.

The Red Tears Poem

by Marya Ophir

Thorns held
painlessly—
tears
on petals
of velvet red.

The Tears Like Diamonds Poem

by Tamara Knight

Unusual intriguing
largely unknown
droll dwarves
that flit about at night
largely unseen
panning for
fallen star dust
in places where
little girls have cried
and left a trail
of tears that sparkle
like diamonds, but
only in the twilight.

Beauty of whatever kind,
in its supreme development, invariably
excites the sensitive soul to tears.
– Edgar Allan Poe

We All Have Dreams

Some of us run from them.
Some of us drown in them.
At Shadow of Iris,
We capture them.
